Volume XIX of the Corpus Rubenianum Ludwig Burchard “Portraits After Existing Prototypes” was launched on December 20th in Ghent, Belgium.
Koenraad Jonckheere was presented the first copy of his book by the rector of Ghent Univeristy Anne De Paepe. In this new volume, the author examines Rubens’ studies on facial features. The painter made geometrical analyses of the faces of ancient emperors and heroes. He invested a great deal of time in detailed anatomical studies, sometimes based on nature, and equally often on antique busts and coins.
